Where do you actually spend your time?

Nothing is uploaded. It is read right here in your browser.
Your file is processed entirely in this browser tab and never leaves your device. The summary is kept in this browser's local storage so it survives a refresh. "Forget" removes it.

How to export your Timeline

  1. Open your phone's Settings app (not Google Maps).
  2. Tap Location → Location services → Timeline.
  3. Tap Export Timeline data.
  4. Choose where to save it. You get a file called Timeline.json.
  5. Send it to this computer (Drive, email to yourself, USB) and drop it on this page. Or open this page on the phone itself.
Can't find it? In Google Maps tap your profile picture → Your Timeline → the ⋮ menu → Location & privacy settings → Export Timeline data. Timeline must be turned on and have been recording for a while, otherwise the file is empty.
  1. Open the Google Maps app.
  2. Tap your profile picture → Settings → Location & privacy.
  3. Tap Export Timeline data.
  4. Save location-history.json to Files, or AirDrop it to your Mac.
  5. Drop it on this page.
Timeline on iPhone only records when Google Maps has "Always" location access and Timeline is enabled in the same settings screen.

If you still have an archive from takeout.google.com (Location History was removed from Takeout in 2024), unzip it and look in Takeout/Location History (Timeline)/.

  1. Best: open Semantic Location History/, pick a year, select all the monthly .json files and drop them here together.
  2. Also works: Records.json. It only holds raw positions, so you get movement heat and routes but no visit counts. Very large files may run out of memory.
You can drop files from different formats and devices at once. They are merged.
